The Story Behind All This…

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

I signed up for the 2010 Disney World Marathon in Orlando scheduled for January 10, 2010. I remember saying, “What was I thinking?” right after I completed the registration. The farthest I’ve run was only 15K.

I picked the Disney Marathon because I’ve always wanted my first marathon to be as scenic and memorable. I have nothing against running here in Jax but I just think having a totally new scenery will help me forget about the distance for a bit.

Two years ago, marathon was the last thing on my mind. I was already working out regularly back then but my workout consists of all weight training but zero cardio. My goal was to be lean and fit. I knew I wouldn’t be able to call myself fit if I couldn’t even run a mile. So in order to force myself to commit to cardio, I signed up for the Gate River Run 15K. Back then I said the same thing, “What was I thinking?” That experience however opened up a whole new world of running for me.

I’ve run several races (5 races) since then and now I want to challenge myself again and maybe, just maybe I can finally cross out that Marathon off from my list. I know 26.2 miles is a lot but I know I wouldn’t commit to training unless I actually sign up for it. The pressure is on now.

Ready, Set…

Run!

Welcome to runamarathonbeforeyoudie.com!

This website has been created to keep track of my first marathon. The objective is to keep myself motivated and at the same time help other novice runners, like myself, prepare for their first marathon. As you may have noticed, this website is still new. In fact, I just went live last night. So pardon the dust in the next few days while I do some rearranging. Stay tuned.
